Anyone who thinks Phoneutria fera isn't agressive, never met one. Those suckers have been known to run up a broomhandle after whoever missed the first strike. It was very interesting to read the list of the world's biggest spiders. I have 4 tarantulas: Mexican Redknee, Mexican Redleg, Brazilian Blue and Curly Black. I have always been fascinated by spiders since my schooldays. When I retired, I bought a Chilean Rose tarantula which died after 4 years. It was an adult when I bought it. It was a male, and I found out their lifespan is around 3 – 7 years. I decided to buy more, but only as slings. I love it when they moult and get bigger each time they moult.
decades ago I bought a Peruvian bird spider from a pet store in Las Vegas. Largest spider I've ever had, and the strongest! One time cleaning his cage I gently moved him out of the way with an all metal butter knife to rearrange things. He did not take this kindly whatsoever and stood up and struck the knife with both front legs and fangs. Frightened as I was I dropped the knife and back up. It proceeded to pick the knife up completely off the ground with it's fangs only and walk around the cage with it. Something I will never forget.
