It will be seen as a green-coloured nucleus for the first time. It was first discovered in the year 2022. The astronomers at the Zwicky Transient Facility used the wide-field survey camera in March. Thus, it got the name ZTF. It was for that time and wasn’t much brighter to be seen without a telescope, but now, as it will be closer to Earth in a few weeks, it can be seen with unaided eyes.
Note: Comets are not shooting stars. To explain, we can say that the shooting starts or the meteors happen when a piece of a comet or asteroid burns while entering the Earth’s atmosphere.
Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF Size
Though the comet is continually moving in space, experts have estimated its size to be around 1 km in diameter. It will be smaller than the NEOWISE, which was discovered on March 27, 2020.
The northern observers will be able to see it more clearly, per the experts. Hence, get yourself ready with the best gear to record while witnessing once in a million years events. It will be a picturesque event for the kids as well as the elders.
Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF Orbit
To know about the Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF image and appearance, you can go to NASA’s website as well. The brightness of the star is more likely to get reduced after Feb 2023.
The Comet is going to reach near the Earth’s Orbit on 2nd Feb 2023. It will reach the perihelion in Jan 2023. Per the news, the Comet is currently moving in an open parabolic orbit.; hence it may move into deep space and never be back again.
Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF Visibility
The experts have stated that people can watch the comet with the naked eye. The green-coloured glow of the Comet will be caused by the carbon gas presence. The latest image shows three tails released from the star.
Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF Closest to Earth |
|
Date | Thursday, Feb 2 2023 |
Distance Kilometers | 42,496,662 |
Distance AU 0.284073 | 0.284073 |
Since then, astrologers, scientists, and other night sky-loving people have been in wait to get a glimpse. The expected brightness of the star will be based on its magnitude; the current one is approx. 9.42.
Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF Tail Length
The Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF or the iceball tail is expected to be stretching 2.5 degrees wide FOV. It is reported to be the closest to the Sun on 12h Jan 2023.
The tail will vary as per the solar winds on the ion glow. The people have to go to a dark place at night to see the comment star in its full brightness. The brightness of the city lights can affect Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF visibility.
The comet might be permanently ejected from our Solar System after this show, per Astrophysicist Nicolas Biver at the Paris Observatory.

Wow can't get much more boring than this idiots sounds.
good form!
Practically took the words right out of my mouth. I've heard toddlers construct better sentences than this.
You got the information right? Isn't that the important bit here?
I live in Haverfordwest, which is in Pembrokeshire Wales. Which is the UK. We're I am is s, west of Wales close too newgale. Were in the sky do I have too look at to find it.
I heard it will pass between the north star (Polaris, the tail of the Little Dipper) and the Big Dipper, to the North of us in the Northern Hemisphere. Another way to put it is to look to the North, find the Little Dipper just over the horizon, then find the Big Dipper (just to the right of the Little Dipper) and search between them with binoculars when it is very dark. The comet should be a green line, depending on the tail, moving further upward each day.
Martin is there a better time to view it?
I appreciate the information you provided.
Jeff
Thank you I think I may have seen it today: I don’t really know.
a few degrees away from polaris
Yeah, I watched a talking head say, "The last time this comet passed our planet was 50,000 years ago and Neanderthal man would have been the ones to have seen it last. Its a once in a life-time experience." Umm no, its a "once in 1,667 generation experience."
sure. Nit-picking. very classy
