Angkor Wat Temple History
The largest religious site in the world is Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The word translates to City Temple, as per the official language of Cambodia, Khmer. King Suryavarman II built it in the 12th century in present Southeast Asia. The temple is said to have the presence of Vishnu and Buddha.

The temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu, a Hindu god. The structure seemed to be built by around 300,000 men, including sculptors, masons, architects, and others. The huge monument took approx 30 years to be together. It’s never fully finished. The astonishing fact is that the temple was carved out of a single stone. Every part of the temple shares a different narrative in a beautiful pattern.

Also, “So, today, when we are restoring, rebuilding, and re-energizing Indian civilization, our task is not only in India. Our task is all over the world. But, it is not only where our civilization went, but it is also where our travellers went, our traders went, our people of faith went,” he added.
The site brings lots of tourists and consequently has great economic potential, but that also brings the destruction of cultural heritage. The site also has an Angkor Archaeological Park is enriched with medicinal plants that the locals use.

The temple ,like many other Vishnu temples in India , are the Buddhist shrines converted to Hindu temples during 1o- 14 centuries. Hindu Brahmins gave leadership to the annihilation of Buddhists , converted their shrines,effaced Buddhism from India, and declared Buddha an incarnation of Vishnu. Temple is not an essential religious practice of Hinduism. There is no mention of temples in Vedas or Upanishads. Temples have a surreptitiously buried stories of Buddhist persecution by Hindu Brahmins.
Angkor Wat literally translates to Enlightenment Temple. Nokor Wat (it’s original name) translates to kingdom’s temple. And the temple is dedicated to the immortal sun God born in human form to be King.
