An interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI) revealed that the All India Trade Union Congress General Secretary Amarjeet Kaur predicted that more than 20 crore formal and informal workers would take part in the strike on March 28 and 29. She said that the strike is likely to extend to rural areas, where informal agricultural laborers and employees from other sectors are expected to join the demonstration. The union’s demands include the abolition of the planned modifications to labor laws, the prohibition of any privatization, and the cancellation of the national monetization pipeline. Increased salary allocations under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and the regularisation of contract employees are also among the demands of unionized workers.
Meanwhile, the power ministry issued a warning on Sunday, advising all state-owned utilities and other organizations to be on high alert to maintain uninterrupted energy supply and grid stability.
