Uhhm there was no NATO until 1949, and barely 2 members of NATO even had an appreciable military, up until the 1950s. VE day (When Nazi Germany surrendered) was in 1945 so you are only totally way off base by 4 years. Belgium joined NATO in 1949. They were far from any kind of a military power. It was pretty much the USA & Great Britain. France had to rebuild its military just like Belgium did.

A Solution to end the Ukraine Problem
Have 10 NATO countries send Putin a joint and simultaneous message that the Convoy must be turned around within 5 hours…or 10 planes…from the 10 different countries will eliminate the convoy.
Does Putin nuke, or have we called his bluff ? (he has nuke-bluffed his last 5 invasions) Can we afford to let this evil alien continue killing humans.
Note that Moscow is currently NOT well protected from attack since Putin is involved in Ukraine, and avoiding being poisoned.

Truly, I agree that should’ve happened. Unfortunately, there were two things that prevented this. (1) Ukraine’s 2012-2014 president practically killed the notion of that happening. Plus he ran away when things got sticky. (2) That was officially shot to hell when Putin made his demands.

Ukraine has been “bullying” Russia’s devolving economy by having them pay high taxes to use their pipelines/railways to export natural gas. Ukraine’s southern island, Cremtia (not sure how to spell it), was overtaken by Russia. Ukraine cemented the only water system going to the island, gradually strangling that island’s citizens. In turn, Russia has to spend more money on preserving those people (keynote: the retaliation isn’t the issue here but the fact there’s now a Russian island beneath Ukraine). Ukrainian Government has ultimately FAILED to notice or acknowledge new pipelines being built to export Russia’s natural gas, effectively cutting off Ukraine’s chances to keep bleeding already-dying Russia dry. That was Ukraine only leverage. Ukraine’s biggest blunder that now has the paying the ultimate price was Ukraine doing ALL of this “bullying” while being under NO PROTECTION WHATSOEVER!!
Russia was and still is playing the long game. If Ukraine would have joined NATO sooner or even at last minute, they wouldn’t have this situation on their hands. NATO helps out when their members are in a time of need. It seems like Ukraine was UNAWARE they sit between NATO and the USSR. You can’t sit between powerhouses and not think either one won’t eventually try to claim you for themselves. Ukraine has only ever been REACTIVE, not at all PROACTIVE! This is their downfall, and this is the result of their minimalistic efforts. This isn’t to shame or criticize Ukraine but to acknowledge where the blunder happened and their continuous naivety. The most any other power can do without inciting World War 3 is to offer refuge for Ukrainians and other refugees. Now we get videos of Ukrainians begging for NATO support when they can’t help you because you’re out of their jurisdiction! They (the Ukrainian government, not the people) have F’CKED themselves! If any NATO forces even ATTEMPT to touch you, it’ll be seen as an act of war. As of now, we can’t do much but offer our VERBAL support. Another thing I failed to mention earlier is this: As much as people say Ukraine has nothing left to lose, neither does Russia. With a dwindling population, plummetting fertility rate, and with the death rate being higher than the birth rate which causes the country’s population to drop by 1.1% every year, this is possibly Russia’s last chance to take any kind of action favorable to their country.
If Ukraine had joined NATO, Russia more than likely would’ve started to fall more and more in less than two years. As a previous comment pointed out, Russia is not as big a powerhouse it once was, so they started a war with Ukraine in order to overall capitalize on Ukraine natural gas reverses (which Ukraine cant harvest due to lack of funding).This isnt only a power play; it’s an attempt to rebuild the nation and its economy (Russia’s). Ukraine waited too long. Russia got hungry. This war has more riding on it than most people think. Russia’s reasons are militaristic, economic, and patriotic. This is Russia’s last chance is something major. Ukraine helped Russia recognize the opportunity by not taking preventative measures. Now all Ukraine has are makeshift weapons and high morale. I do hope Ukraine makes it out of this war without too many casualties and drawbacks. But I also hope the Ukrainian government learns from its past mistakes and make the necessary changes it needs to keep its country and citizens afloat.

My thoughts are that a NON NATO country intervene with the intention of saying to Russia, we are coming to create a line where geographically your forces have not assaulted, we invite all Ukraines to withdraw behind this line for protection. If Putin decided to only nuke the US the rest of NATO would fall apart as they are weaker even in unison without the assistance of the US. 5. It might be worth looking further into history. Ukraine was part of the USSR and not Russia. It is now and has been for some time, an independent country with its own status and government. Russia has no legitimate claim to the land that is Ukraine. History is not a deciding factor unless you look past what once was to see what has happened over time. The short answer is, yes. NATO countries are obliged to protect and defend all of their ally’s. Thus, should a country (part of the NATO Alliance) be invaded, all of NATO’s ally’s can step in to defend said country.

My belief is that Putin ‘freaked out’ when he thought the Ukraine may become part of NATO. If you look at a map, you can see that European NATO alliances are surrounding Russia as it is. Should the Ukraine join too, well, Putin would see that as an imminent threat and clearly DID.
As far as further invasion, beyond the Ukraine, I don’t see that happening because Putin knows he’s then dealing with NATO Alliances and the risk is simply too great.

No way would Russia do that, their all about power and hurting people(putin is not saying the people are) im pretty sure nato is what keeps the peace between all countries, countries with dangerous weapons probably didn’t want to join nato bc they knew they would have to keep the peace with each other

I hope America can help the people in Ukraine because they are sending people that really don’t understand guns a person that is friendly will have a hard time to fight a professional soldier so I hope nato can see they poor proud people.
No Russia is not, NATO is about trying to keep the peace and Russia is nothing like that. Russia is communists. These countries who are in NATO are free.

Yes that is what it means. If any one of NATO’s members come under attack, it is just as if every country comes under attack.
NATO has 3.5 million active soldiers and Personel that are from all 30 NATO countries that are able to assemble and report in a very short notice.

Rome is in Italy and England is known as the United Kingdom both joined NATO in 1949. Ireland is considered part of the United Kingdom.

England (on the list as United Kingdom) joined at the very beginning in 1949. The Vatican (Rome) is not a member directly, but Italy is. I wonder why Ireland is not a member. There are 2 countries in Ireland…including Northern Ireland which really is governed by England and the southern part which is separate. It is too bad they are not members of NATO because Russian ships are just sitting off their shores waiting for something. We do not know what at this time.
