Black Adam Release Date

Now, before all you DC super-fans get too excited about the villain-turned-big-screen antihero’s debut, we should warn you that there’s still a long way to go before you get your hands on the Black Adam film. Even though DC has been preparing the character’s big-screen debut for a long time, Black Adam’s journey to cinemas has been lengthy and tortuous. That’s primarily due to the DCEU rethinking how they handled their cinematic universe after Justice League’s massive flop. DC‘s desire to have Shazam also played a role!

On JULY 29, 2023, Black Adam will be released in cinemas. Due to the coronavirus pandemic delaying shooting, the film was supposed to be released on December 22, 2022. It was moved back to the summer of 2023.

Black Adam Cast

The film also stars Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, a.k.a. Albert Rothstein, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, in addition to the Rock. Sarah Shahi (Adrianna Tomaz) has also joined the cast. In the comics, Tomaz becomes Black Adam’s love interest. She is also the goddess Isis’ incarnation and a hero in her own right.

Actor Character

At the time, we didn’t know who would star alongside Johnson in the Black Adam film since Warner Bros. hadn’t made any other casting announcements. However, it seems they have no plans to include Zachary Levi’s Billy Batson/Shazam in the mix just yet, and Levi himself has said that the two antagonists would most likely not meet until Shazam 3.

Black Adam Plot

While we don’t know who will be in the movie starring Mr. Rock, we also don’t know much about the narrative since DC and Warner Bros. has been tight-lipped about the film’s premise. Even though we have no idea what Team DC has planned for the film, there are a few things we may deduce ahead of any official narrative announcements. Debut and foremost, this movie will mark the character’s first appearance in the DC Extended Universe. As a result, it’s logical to assume that the movie will act as a genesis narrative. It’ll be fascinating to watch how the movie creative team handles the character’s origins if that’s the case.

In case you didn’t know, the character’s origin has changed drastically in the pages of DC comics throughout the years. Initially, this movie was a legitimate criminal and a tragically misguided forerunner to Shazam, who often fought Billy Batson and his super-powered team. However, in recent years, the character’s storyline has shifted away from pure villainy, with the movie instead shown as a wronged antihero seeking to clear his name and reputation.

According to Johnson, the antihero aspect of the movie’s tale will be emphasized (via ScreenRant). For the film, he may even be pushing the character into more straight-out hero territory, which could make for a fascinating fight when he finally faces up with Shazam — or, dare we say, Superman — on the big screen.

Black Adam Villain

While the Shazam film had numerous fan-pleasing surprises, the greatest surprise came during the end credits, when one of Shazam’s most well-known antagonists was given a proper debut. Many fans anticipated Black Adam himself to emerge, but instead, they were given to Mister Mind’s synthetic voice.

Mister Mind may only seem to be a caterpillar. Still, he’s a super-intelligent monster with psychic abilities that daily controls his supervillain organization, the Monster Society of Evil. Mr. Mind may have an intriguing influence on Black Adam instead, given that he doesn’t present in Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
